Sam Hiscox for BFW: Model Castings April 16, 2009

Filed under: BFW Stylehunter — alex @ 7:23 am

Sam Hiscox is back with some titilating shots from the 2nd model castings. You lot are so hot you leave us sweating like we’re polar bears lost in the Sahara. Uh-huh. You make us beg for air-con as we dig out our wayfarers. You’re hot like Britney Spears circa 2000. Point taken we hope.

Storyboard: Lisa Coles, Geisha Girl April 16, 2009

Model story: Lisa Coles

Call it luck, fate, chance whatever you like, Lisa Coles was in the right place at the right time. Just a normal brighton student by day and Madame Geisha bar girl by night, our Lisa never imagined that she’d go from cocktail maker to catwalk shaker in a matter of minutes on a Monday night.

The Brighton Fash Team have an eye for talent you see and Lisa’s model look didn’t go unoticed at for very long at our model auditions- we had her out from the bar, admin’d, snapped and strutting in record time.

Bewildered? Yes she was…and excited..terrified..hopeful..and wonderous..we could go on with the adjectives all night, but we won’t. Here’s Lisa’s modern day cinderella story in pictures (sans glass slipper but with a very fine, highstreet heel instead!)

StyleHunter introduces…Sam Hiscox April 9, 2009

Naomi by Sam Hiscox
Naomi by Sam Hiscox

Give a warm welcome to Sam Hiscox, local photographic talent and our newest BFW StyleHunter contributor. Sam will be taking to the streets to snap shots of local hotties and fashion fiends, showcasing his work from http://www.dayglo-poster.blogspot.com. Stay tuned for the premiere of Hiscox for BFW, we’re really excited to sample his unique visual aesthetic here on our blog.

We’d hate to tease you with promises of brilliance without giving you anything to sink your artistic teeth into, so feast your eyes on two of Sam’s best loved pictures.

Not shy of expressing our opinions BFW is enamoured with Hiscox’s ‘Naomi’. 50′s kitch and a towerblock? Now that’s our cup of tea. Can you say ‘perfect juxtaposition of background and subject’? We sure can. The contrast between old school glamour with it’s subtle, modest sexiness and the borderline, morose architecture with its uniform structure, create an unexpected visual that manipulates existing ideologies to surprise and delight.  An obsession has been born. We’re ready for our next Hiscox fix.

If YOU have an eye for style, whether mainstream or eccentric, and can snap a fierce photo, then contact us to discuss contributing to BFW’s Stylehunter section.

The Clothes Line

The Clothes Line, a revolutionary way to spend a night out!

Already tried & tested in London, New York & Sydney…Clothes line offers the Brightonian fashionistas the chance to up-date their wardrobe without spending a fortune, listen to Brighton’s best new dj’s, meet like minded people, win raffle prizes and help support sustainable fashion in glorious surroundings. Which is a lot to pack into an evening!!

The format is simple: Each guest brings 5 items of decent, lightly worn, clean, clothes, shoes & or accessories that you would be proud to pass on to be swapped on the night. Think of all the miss-styled fashion presents you & or your family have bought you over the year!! (Tamarr has requested no  Primark, Peacocks or similar!)

Competition: BFW Fashion Writer 2009 April 2, 2009

Competition: BFW Fashion Writer 2009

BFW are launching our 2009 Fashion Writer Competition to discover the next big talent in fashion writing. One aspiring fashion writer will win the chance to work alongside us reporting for Brighton Fashion Weekend 2009.

Our competition winner gets privileged BACKSTAGE access to Brighton Fashion Weekend’s main event – The Theatrical Catwalk Show 2009 taking place 22nd May, Hilton Hotel, Brighton.

This VIP pass to style heaven will imbue you with firsthand experience of fashion in motion, afford you invaluable industry contacts and let you affiliate yourself with the BFW brand -  all this while your friends go green with envy.

Post-event you’ll shine on our blog as a BFW guest editor for the day with your own fashion spot, giving you the chance to put your name in print. Our loyal readers will look to you for  exclusive Brighton Fashion Weekend 2009 gossip and behind-the-scenes catwalk shenanigans.

Your writing will reflect our brand and that’s why we’re looking for the hottest writing talent around. Impress us and we might just ask you back.

What We Want

Choose one trend, outfit, or visual from the recent AW09/10 runway collections that makes you come out with a bad case of label lust and give us the low down on why it’s so covetable.

A fashion reporter must be able to deconstruct and analyse a designer’s complex vision and translate this to a mass audience in an entertaining, understandable and articulate manner – these are vital skills we will be scouting for. Click either picture to see a written example – we don’t expect it to be a replica, we just wanna see that you LOVE fashion!

250 min – 400 words max. Entries beyond this will be discounted. Photos are encouraged to support your written work.

Who You Are

You will possess a witty, concise writing style and an obsession with fashion, as well as some knowledge of seasonal trends and hot new designers. We don’t care if you’ve never written before and have zero practical fashion experience, nor do we care where you live or how old you are. We just want you to love fashion.
